Call for Projects to Produce Artwork

The ”la Caixa” Foundation has a longstanding commitment to culture in general and the visual arts in particular. Over recent decades it has supported a large number of cultural programmes designed to offer a platform and provide professional opportunities to artists, curators and other players in the art world.

In addition to its existing call for curatorial projects—a two-yearly programme aimed at young curators—this year it has created a new call for projects to produce visual artwork. This new call for projects is aimed at all artists interested in producing a piece that has already been lined up to be presented in a specific context, as part of an exhibition or any other arranged project. ”la Caixa” will provide the necessary resources to create the piece in question and will oversee production but will not be involved in exhibiting the finished work.

The call for projects to produce artwork is open to artists of any age with Spanish or Portuguese nationality or residency, although preference will be given to emerging artists aged under 30. The programme will provide the necessary resources to create a work of art that has already secured a means of exhibition but which lacks the financial and professional resources at the production stage. This initiative aims to become a benchmark programme on the Iberian Peninsula, although the finished works may be exhibited in any Spanish, Portuguese or international artistic context, provided that the exhibition details are cleared stated when the project is submitted.

The programme hopes to become a stable source of support for contemporary artists and a catalyst for forging new collaborative ties between curators in Spain and Portugal and agents and spaces linked to the visual arts worldwide.

Submissions should include a brief description of the project, a document setting out the details of when and where the finished piece will be exhibited and an estimate of the artist’s fees and production costs for the work.

Interested artists should submit their projects between 28 May and 25 September 2018.

Terms and conditions

The winning projects will be made public in December 2018. Once the pieces have been duly exhibited, they will be assessed by the Acquisitions Committee, which will decide whether or not to acquire them for the ”la Caixa” Collection of Contemporary Art.

We wish all applicants the very best of luck!
