Hinting at his memories of the Alhambra, Pijuan paints with a steady rhythm to weave a mesh that covers the pictorial space. In his own words: “Painting should be direct enough to avoid becoming a slave to itself; it should transform materials on a surface into something that clearly gives us the key to an emotion; it should go beyond mere artistry to allow reason to be questioned by thought, and thought to be questioned by painting itself and by what we call sensitivity.”
