Call for Curatorial Projects
The call for curatorial projects gives young curators the chance to work with pieces in the ”la Caixa” Collection of Contemporary Art in an open, flexible and innovative way. Every two years, it calls for curatorial projects from curators aged under 40 with Spanish or Portuguese nationality or residency who have already curated at least three exhibitions. It is aimed at up-and-coming curators with some experience under their belt who would benefit from expanding their lines of research through a project of this nature.
Each of the three winning curators will receive €6,000 as artist’s fees. When it comes to producing their project, the "la Caixa" Foundation's exhibitions team will be on hand to offer them advice and resources, and they will receive further guidance and tutoring from the members of the jury.
The winning curators’ shows will be included in the annual programme of exhibitions at CaixaForum Barcelona and in the future may take the form of travelling exhibitions. There is also the possibility of forging partnerships with other institutions. Should curators wish to strike up a dialogue between pieces from the Collection and current artistic practices, their projects may also include existing work by emerging artists that does not form part of the ”la Caixa” Collection of Contemporary Art or any other collection.
Each project will last four months in total. During the first month, the curators will be granted access to the "la Caixa" Collection of Contemporary Art and will receive advice from the "la Caixa" Foundation's exhibitions team to help shape their project. The three remaining months will be spent preparing the exhibition. Additional activities and actions (talks, workshops, performances, etc.) targeted at different audiences may be programmed to tie in with the show while it is on, with the aim of exploring the contents of the exhibition in greater depth.
